From the Chinese capital Beijing, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed this Wednesday a government order for “up to 120” aircraft from the Airbus manufacturer.
The chancellor, who is making his first visit to China since taking office in 2025, did not provide further details on the aircraft ordered or on the date of the order. He spoke of other “contracts in view” and of “very concrete” progress on other matters, but none have yet been definitively concluded, with no further details.
He clarified: “We have just learned that Chinese leaders will order more aircraft from Airbus. Up to 120 additional aircraft will be ordered from Airbus.”
