Speaking on the microphone of Tunisie Numérique, Dr Mohamed Fares Ben Hadid, sports and family physician, warned about the risks of overtraining during Ramadan.

According to him, athletes must be particularly attentive to signs of exhaustion and fatigue, whether during the fasting period or after iftar.

Among the warning signals not to neglect :

  • A continuous or extreme fatigue

  • An unusual drop in performance during training

  • A resting heart rate higher than usual

  • Mood changes, irritability, nervousness

  • Persistent muscle pains

  • A lack of motivation and a decrease in concentration

The doctor also notes that if training is performed before breaking the fast, the appearance of dizziness, malaise, or a feeling of weakness imposes the immediate cessation of the session.

Dr Ben Hadid discourages intense sport during Ramadan, explaining that the body functions differently due to the change in eating rhythm and the reduction in the number of meals.

However, he insists: you must not stop exercising, but rather adapt the intensity and volume of training to the pace of the sacred month.

Another essential factor: sleep. Lack of rest can lead to a drop in performance, increase the risk of injuries and amplify fatigue. He therefore recommends regular and sufficient sleep, as well as adequate hydration between iftar and suhoor to limit the risk of dehydration.
