Manouba: 37 Quintals of Subsidized Flour Seized in Bakery for Fraud

An economic control group of the Manouba regional directorate for Trade and Export Development seized, on Saturday morning, 37 quintals of subsidized flour (equivalent to 74 sacks of 50 kg each) in a bakery located in the Sidi Ali al-Hattab region, in Mornaguia. The seizure followed the discovery that the bakery owner was using this flour, reserved exclusively for the production of ordinary bread, to produce higher-quality bread, instead of the flour intended for that use.

An official report was drawn up for this purpose, and measures were taken against the bakery owner for violating subsidy regulations by using a subsidized material for purposes not foreseen. The seized flour will be sold through legal distribution channels, and the proceeds will be deposited in the State General Treasury, according to information gathered by the Tunis Afrique Presse agency from the regional direction of commerce.

Since the start of Ramadan, a total of 417 quintals of subsidized flour have been seized in the Manouba governorate, thanks to the intensified efforts of control officers who are focusing on bakeries and other establishments open to the public, whether within the framework of independent inspections or joint inspections with the police, the municipal guard, and security units, in order to combat practices contrary to subsidy rules and the exploitation of subsidized products for unauthorized purposes.
