A decree concerning the extension of the deployment of a light infantry battalion in the Central African Republic under the aegis of the United Nations was published this Friday in the Official Journal of the Tunisian Republic, in its issue number 33.
Article 1 of Decree No. 43 provides for the extension, for an additional year starting from May 22, 2026, of the deployment of this battalion as part of the support to the United Nations Integrated Multidimensional Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), the subject of Presidential Decree No. 422 of the year 2022, dated April 19, 2022, mentioned above.
A decree published in April 2022 had provided for the deployment of a light infantry battalion composed of 450 military personnel, within the framework of support to MINUSCA. These units had left Tunisia in September of the same year.
This military unit was tasked with intervention missions aimed at protecting civilians from the abuses of armed groups and at securing the deployment area, notably through the installation of checkpoints and the direction of humanitarian aid, as well as the protection of United Nations personnel and property.
The military units also provided support to disarmament, demobilization, reintegration and repatriation operations, while contributing to the monitoring of respect for human rights within the missions entrusted to the United Nations Integrated Multidimensional Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic.
