“With the expansion of the global transport fleet, which is expected to number 1.2 billion additional vehicles by 2050, the road transport sector is projected to record the fastest additional growth in oil demand,” said Dr Ayed Al-Qahtani, Director of the Research Division at OPEC, who delivered a keynote address as a guest speaker at the General Assembly of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), which took place today in Geneva, Switzerland.

In his remarks, Dr Al-Qahtani praised the importance of IRU and stressed that OPEC has long recognized the essential role of dialogue among energy sector stakeholders, given the interconnection of global markets and energy-related challenges.

Dr Al-Qahtani also emphasized that “OPEC continues to advocate for an approach based on all energies, all technologies and all peoples. Such a balanced approach is the best way forward to ensure energy security, meet the growing needs for abundant, reliable and affordable energy, and reduce emissions.”
