The Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Export Promotion, Mourad Ben Hassine, received yesterday a delegation from the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade of Hunan Province, in the People’s Republic of China.

This meeting is part of the strengthening of economic and commercial cooperation relations between Tunisia and China, as well as the development of bilateral exchanges with Hunan Province, considered one of the major economic and industrial hubs in China.

A positive dynamic in Tunisian-Chinese relations

This visit takes place in a context marked by a positive dynamic in the relations between Tunisia and China, particularly in the economic field. It aims to stimulate trade exchanges and broaden the prospects for cooperation between Tunisian companies and their counterparts in Hunan Province.

The initiative also carries particular importance in light of the Chinese government’s decision to waive, for two years, tariffs on imported goods from several African countries, including Tunisia.

This measure represents a promising opportunity to improve Tunisian products’ access to the Chinese market and strengthen their competitiveness.

New opportunities for Tunisian exporters

During this meeting, both parties emphasized that this decision could open new prospects for Tunisian companies wishing to export to China. It should also help diversify export destinations, reduce dependence on traditional markets, and support the integration of the Tunisian economy into global markets.

The discussions also addressed ways to develop cooperation in the fields of trade promotion, organization of trade missions and business meetings, as well as the exchange of information and expertise related to foreign trade and investment.

Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding

The proceedings of the meeting were crowned by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Center for Export Promotion and the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade of Hunan Province.

This agreement aims to establish a permanent institutional framework for coordination, cooperation and exchange of expertise and best practices in areas of common interest.

This is a concrete step that reflects the mutual willingness of the two parties to elevate economic and commercial relations to a higher level, to explore new partnership and cooperation opportunities, and to strengthen the presence of Tunisian products in the Chinese market.

A market of more than 1.4 billion consumers

This partnership holds strategic importance, given China’s position as the world’s second-largest economy and one of the leading trading partners at the international level.

China also represents a vast consumer market of more than 1.4 billion people. The Hunan Province, which has more than 65 million inhabitants, constitutes an important economic and industrial hub, offering promising opportunities for Tunisian high-value-added products.

This initiative should help strengthen Tunisian companies’ presence in the Chinese market, explore new possibilities for export, investment and partnership, and support Tunisia’s efforts to diversify its external markets and integrate into global value chains.
