According to the 2025 annual report of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), the issuance of new banknotes reached 117 million notes in 2025, for a total value of 3.509 MDT, up 15.3% year-on-year.

These issuances account for 28% of the global flow of cash withdrawals by value, thus complementing the cash resulting from the sorting of deposits. Moreover, in order to meet the sustained demand for cash in the economy for the 2026-2027 cycle, the BCT launched in 2024 a program for manufacturing all banknote denominations, with the first deliveries beginning in 2025.

Coin issuance also recorded, in 2025, a sharp rise of 57.2% in number, reaching 30 million coins and 46.2% in value, to stand at 19 MDT, in response to a demand remaining strong.

Regarding the maintenance of fiduciary currency and the supply of branches to preserve the integrity and quality of the banknotes in circulation while meeting increasing demand, the BCT, in 2025, processed 578.7 million banknotes, representing a total amount of 11.218 MDT, i.e., all 2025 deposits in addition to the residual stock of 2024.

At the end of this process, 68.5% of the sorted banknotes, deemed fit for circulation, were reinjected into the economy. The remainder, consisting of worn notes not meeting the standards required for their reinvestment, was destroyed by grinding.

Also, in order to ensure the continuity of supply to its branches to meet cash demand in the regions, the BCT carried out in 2025 83 cash transports to interior branches and 62 direct deliveries to the Tunis branch, totaling 4.159 MDT in banknotes and 17.8 MDT in coins.
