The Minister of the Environment, Habib Abid, announced a series of interventions and measures aimed at improving the environmental situation and accelerating the completion of several wastewater treatment projects in the Zaghouan Governorate. These actions include planning studies for new wastewater treatment plants, operations to remove waste, and the development of green spaces, as well as monitoring the progress of rehabilitation works at the El Fahs wastewater treatment plant.
These decisions were taken during a field visit conducted on Tuesday by the minister in the Zaghouan Governorate. The visit began with an inspection of the region’s sanitation basins in Bouachir, where it was agreed, initially, to carry out their emptying, before launching a study aimed at the construction of a wastewater treatment plant, included in the 2026-2030 development plan.
In the Saouaf delegation, the minister learned of a project to rehabilitate a district, including the renewal and extension of the sewage evacuation network over a length of 2,500 meters. It was also decided to commission a study for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant, as well as to schedule an intervention to remove the waste dumped anarchically in the neighboring wadi.
In the Nadhour region, the Minister of the Environment inspected the site planned for the wastewater treatment plant as well as the collection and transfer point for household and similar waste. He emphasized the need to accelerate the completion of procedures related to the designation of the land intended for the plant, in order to enable the project’s launch.
The visit also made it possible to schedule, during the year, the development of a green space in Nadhour, the installation of several urban facilities and playgrounds for children, in addition to the green spaces planned in Saouaf and in the municipality of El Amaïem.
The minister concluded his visit to the El Fahs wastewater treatment plant, where he learned of the progress of the rehabilitation works, whose completion rate has reached 90%. This project aims to improve the plant’s energy efficiency, with a treatment capacity of 3,500 cubic meters per day.
