According to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), as of July 30, 2026, the volume of banknotes and coins in circulation in Tunisia stood at 29.751 billion dinars, compared with 29.686 billion dinars the day before.
Cash in circulation thus rose by 65 million dinars in one day, a modest increase of 0.22%.
This evolution signals relative stability in the very short term.
By contrast, the increase over one year is significantly larger. As of July 30, 2025, the banknotes and coins in circulation stood at 25.562 billion dinars. The stock therefore grew by 4.189 billion dinars, an annual increase of 16.4%.
As a reminder, the volume of banknotes and coins in circulation had reached this same level on May 26, 2026, when it hit a historic high of 29.7 billion dinars.
This strong annual growth may reflect an increased demand for liquidity, notably driven by summer expenditures, household consumption, and the still substantial reliance on cash payments. It also signals a notable rise in the amount of fiat currency held outside the banking system.
