Tunisia’s tourism continues to strengthen foreign currency earnings through the continued growth of tourism receipts. As of August 20 of the current year, tourism receipts reached 5,127.5 million dinars, compared with 4,885 million dinars on the same date last year, representing an annual increase of 416.9 million dinars, according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).
The improvement in tourism receipts notably promotes purchases of foreign banknotes (BBE) by the Central Bank of Tunisia from licensed intermediaries.
For reference, tourism receipts continued to rise during the first half of the year, reaching 3,352.4 MDT at the end of June 2026, compared with 3,211.2 MDT a year earlier, i.e., a 4.4% increase. Adjusted for exchange-rate effects, this growth stands at 5.2%, versus 7.0% in the same period of the previous year.
According to official figures, Tunisia welcomed 5.928 million tourists from the start of the year through July 31, 2026, recording a 2.6% increase compared with the same period of the previous year.
