Approximately 29 deaths were recorded per 100 accidents, compared with nearly 22 deaths per 100 accidents during the same period of the previous year, indicating an increase in the severity of the recorded accidents.
The number of injuries, for its part, has decreased, from 4 967 as of 31 August 2025 to 4 037 during the same period in 2026. This corresponds to a decrease of 930 injuries, or 18.72%.
Overall, the report indicates an improvement in terms of the number of accidents and injuries. However, the rise in the number of deaths remains a worrying indicator, calling for increased attention to the causes of fatal accidents and their level of severity.
As of 31 August 2026, inattention and lack of vigilance leading the causes of road accidents, with 898 accidents, i.e., 29.11% of the total. Speed ranks second with 694 accidents, i.e., 22.50%, followed by crossing the roadway with 243 accidents, i.e., 7.88%, then failure to yield the right of way with 235 accidents, i.e., 7.62 %. Change of direction ranks fifth with 186 accidents, representing 6.03%.
On the same date, private cars also top the categories involved in road accidents, with 1 761 involvements, i.e., 57.08%. They are followed by motorized two-wheelers with 1 565 involvements, i.e., 50.73%, then pedestrians with 894 involvements, representing 28.98%.
