The Tunindex fell by 0.77% this Monday, September 21, in a session where declines were twice as numerous as gains.
But the leaderboard of the biggest movers tells a different story: eight of the ten stocks in the top and bottom lists traded at the fixing, and several show their movements with only a few hundred or a few thousand dinars traded — or even no transaction in the case of SOTEMAIL.
What to remember
The Tunindex remains up 40.33% since January, but is now 12.43% below its July 17 high.
During the session, the five most active stocks accounted for 56.2% of the cash traded on equities. And behind the spectacular movements of the leaderboard, volumes are sometimes extremely low.
A session clearly biased to the downside
The Tunindex closes at 18,874.50 points, down 0.77%, while the Tunindex20 falls 0.79% to 8,245.54 points.
Among the 75 listed companies, 37 decline, versus only 18 gains. Ten stocks end unchanged, eight are not quoted during the session and two remain suspended.
Stock trades reach 4.952 million dinars, with no block transaction during the session. With 913 DT on debt securities and 500,010 DT in registrations, the traded capital totals about 5.453 million dinars.
Market capitalization also falls by 0.80%, to 46.663 billion dinars.
The official leaderboard, and what it hides
Among the ten stocks appearing in the session’s top and bottom, eight belong to the fixing groups 12 and 99. Only SOTUMAG and UIB trade continuously.
On several of these fixing-price stocks, sometimes illiquid, a few orders can be enough to push them to the extremes of the leaderboard. One must therefore look at the variation, the number of shares traded, and the capital actually exchanged.

SOTEMAIL : +3.76 %
Fixing (group 99) — no transaction. The stock finished higher.
Tunisair : +3.33 %

Sanimed : +2.86 %
Fixing (group 99) — 4 trades, 880 shares, 317 DT.
SOTUMAG : +2.61 %
Continuous (group 11) — 41 trades, 10,701 shares and about 250,500 DT.
Watch the volumes: SOTEMAIL posts a rise without recording a transaction. Excluding SOTUMAG, the other three top stocks that actually traded accumulate only about 2,466 DT of capital. Almost all the money traded in the top five therefore went through SOTUMAG.
