Accused and criticized from all sides since the aborted plan to create a joint-stock company open to private investors, FIFA president Gianni Infantino continues to cling to his post as FIFA president.
Yesterday, the head of the global body proposed “a consultation” of the federations to reform FIFA governance, in a letter addressed to the 211 member federations.
The first proposals studied on October 15
“I propose that the Council (FIFA) organizes a direct, structured, and time-limited consultation with the confederations, the member associations and the concerned stakeholders on how to further strengthen FIFA’s decision-making processes.”
“This consultation would invite concrete proposals concerning earlier involvement of institutional bodies, the respective roles of the President, the Office, the Council and the Congress, as well as concrete means to strengthen transparency, participation and accountability in major strategic initiatives,” added the leader.
The FIFA president proposes to study the initial proposals as soon as the Council is scheduled for October 15, noting that “written contributions received subsequently, but within a reasonable timeframe, will naturally also be examined.”
A candidate for his own succession in March next year and in a precarious position for several months, Gianni Infantino clarified that “any statutory modification resulting from this would then be submitted to the Congress for examination and approval according to the appropriate procedure.”
