The project to create a centralized heating and cooling network (District Heating and Cooling – DHC) at the Bab Saadoun sanitary hill is expected to achieve energy savings estimated at nearly 40% of the heating and air conditioning needs of the 17 health facilities involved. This is according to data published on Monday, October 26, 2026, by the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME).
In this framework, a working workshop was held on Monday in Tunis to present the results of the detailed technical feasibility study of the scenarios considered for the realization of this project, whose studies benefit from funding in the form of a grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB).
This meeting allowed examining the technical conclusions of the study and exchanging on the various solutions retained for the installation of a collective system of production and distribution of heat and cold intended for the hospital facilities in the area.
The discussions also addressed the technical constraints and the conditions necessary for the realization of the project.
According to ANME, this initiative aims to optimize the energy consumption of the health facilities concerned and to limit their carbon emissions. It thus aligns with Tunisia’s efforts to improve energy efficiency and support its transition toward a lower-emission energy model.
