The Finance and Budget Committee of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (ARP) announced today that it has decided, during a session devoted to examining the reasons for the delay in presenting the broad outlines of the 2027 finance bill, to hold a hearing with the Chief Executive Officer of the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG).
This hearing will be devoted to examining the country’s energy situation, the cost of energy and its repercussions on financial and economic balances, as well as issues related to electricity outages and the measures taken to guarantee the continuity of the public electricity service.
The committee also decided to hold a hearing with the Chief Executive Officer of the National Office for Water Exploitation and Distribution (SONEDE), devoted to examining problems related to interruptions in water supply, their causes, and the measures taken to remedy them and guarantee the continuity of the public water service.
The Finance and Budget Committee, furthermore, decided to hear the Minister of Finance to examine the reasons for the delay in transmitting to the committee the reports and data relating to the execution of the state budget, notably those concerning the execution of the budget for the first half of 2026. The hearing will also address the hypotheses adopted for the draft Finance Bill for 2027, as well as compliance with deadlines and legal procedures relating to the transmission to the committee of the documents and data necessary. It will also clarify the possibility of drafting a supplementary Finance Bill in a context marked by volatility in oil prices.
The hearing of the Minister of Finance will also cover the regulatory texts relating to the implementation of the provisions of the Finance Act for 2026. The commission will notably examine the progress of their publication, the reasons for the delay recorded in this area and their repercussions on the application of the provisions of the Finance Act.
