In a medical first at Habib Bougatfa University Hospital in Bizerte, a multidisciplinary medical team, composed of practitioners from this facility and the Menzel Bourguiba Regional Hospital, succeeded in carrying out a delicate surgical intervention on a patient who had suffered a road traffic accident resulting in multiple fractures of the skull and face.
The patient’s condition required reconstruction of the anterior cranial fossa as well as repair of the facial bones. The operation, which lasted more than six hours, mobilized a full team including a neurosurgeon and an anesthesiologist-intensivist from Habib Bougatfa University Hospital in Bizerte, as well as the head of the maxillofacial surgery department at the Menzel Bourguiba Regional Hospital.
The medical team used advanced surgical techniques and rigorous protocols to monitor the patient’s condition before, during, and after the intervention.
The patient remains currently under care and supervision, in accordance with safety protocols as well as procedures for neurological and maxillofacial management. Early follow-up examinations showed stability of vital signs and an improvement in his general condition.
The therapeutic protocol and rehabilitation program are currently continuing to favor the recovery of neurological functions and the restoration of the face’s appearance.
