This Tuesday evening, the Tunisian U23 team took a step toward qualification for the second round of the CAN U23 qualifiers, by dominating Benin (2-0), in the first-leg of the opening round.
The 50th minute saw the referee award a penalty to Tunisia after a Beninese handball in the area, and Omar Ben Ali took charge of converting it in the 57th minute.
In the 90+7th minute, Omar Ben Ali sealed the break and scored his brace for the evening, bringing the score to 2-0.
The Beninese managed to reduce the score in the 90th minute, but their goal was ruled out by VAR after a foul committed on Tunisian defender Mohamed Amine Allala.
The Eagles of Carthage will approach the return leg with a two-goal lead. The second leg is scheduled for October 5 at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé.
