The National Cybersecurity Agency has warned about the increasing threats related to social networks, which are no longer merely spaces for communication, but have now become one of the main targets of cyberattacks, notably with the use of artificial intelligence technologies in fraud operations, digital disinformation, and targeting of users.

In a press release published on this matter, the Agency outlined the main new threats, among which are AI-based phishing, identity impersonation attacks, malicious links disseminated through messages, as well as malware spread on platforms, advanced social engineering techniques, and the theft of one-time verification codes (OTPs).

The Agency also detailed several protective measures, including enabling two-factor authentication, prohibiting sharing verification codes, vigilance against urgent or alarming messages, avoiding suspicious links, and verifying the identity of the caller or sender.

Among other recommended protective mechanisms are limiting access to personal information, avoiding adding strangers to private conversations, keeping applications regularly updated, as well as exclusively using official apps and monitoring devices connected to accounts.
