Strong gusts of wind caused, on the evening of Sunday, August 30, 2026, the rekindling of several hotspots of the fire affecting Mount Boulmane, in the Mazata area, within the Bargou delegation, in the Siliana Governorate.
According to a source from the Siliana Regional Forestry Directorate, cited by the TAP agency, the spread of the flames was aided both by the violence of the winds and by the difficulty of the terrain, complicating field intervention operations.
Gusts over 100 km/h
The same source specified that wind speeds exceeded 100 km/h, contributing to the rekindling and expansion of the fire.
Under the impact of the gusts, ashes from the affected area were carried over long distances, reaching the borders of the Kairouan Governorate.
The fire had, however, been completely brought under control in the early hours of Sunday dawn. Forest agents and Civil Protection units had subsequently launched cooling operations to prevent any reignition of the fire.
Reinforcements requested from neighboring governorates
In view of the reappearance of several hotspots and the spread of the flames, reinforcements were requested from neighboring governorates.
These reinforcements include, notably, trucks from the forest services and Civil Protection, to support the teams already deployed on the ground and to strengthen the fire-control operations.
The rugged nature of the terrain and the dispersion of the hotspots nonetheless make certain areas particularly difficult to access.
A fire declared since Thursday
The Mount Boulmane fire, in the Mazata area of Bargou, broke out last Thursday.
Since its outbreak, the fire has been characterized by the presence of several dispersed hotspots, significantly complicating extinguishing operations and access to certain affected areas.
Two military aircraft mobilized
Significant human and logistical resources have been mobilized to fight the fire.
Two military aircraft were notably deployed to support the ground teams.
The mobilized arrangement also includes five trucks from the forest service of the regional office for agricultural development, a brush-clearing vehicle, and six trucks belonging to the Siliana regional directorate of Civil Protection.
The teams continue their efforts to contain the reactivated hotspots and prevent further spread of the flames, as weather conditions, particularly the strength of the wind, remain a determining factor in the evolution of the situation.
