Health Minister Mustapha Ferjani held, on Wednesday, a working session with Wissam Mankoula, the Africa CDC’s Regional Director for North Africa, who was accompanied by a delegation from the center.

The meeting focused on ways to strengthen cooperation across several areas, including digital health, the digital hospital, telemedicine, teleradiology, primary health care, vaccination, as well as other axes, according to a communiqué published by the ministry.

Mr. Ferjani stressed that Tunisia, drawing on the skills, experience and digital projects it has accumulated, is capable of becoming an operational African platform for the sharing of expertise and support for the continent’s health sovereignty. He specified that this objective requires closer integration of citizen services and improved preparedness of health systems to face epidemics and emergency situations.

The minister also stressed the importance of developing an African system for data collection, analysis and sharing within the framework of a “One Health” approach, in order to strengthen early warning mechanisms and protect populations against cross-border health risks.

For its part, the representative of the Africa CDC expressed the institution’s support for this orientation, highlighting the importance of the Tunisian experience in advancing health security in Africa.

The Minister of Health also called for active participation by African countries in the TeleHealth Tunisia 2026 conference, which will be held in Tunisia from 29 September to 1 October. This event aims to be a platform for presenting concrete solutions in digital health, telemedicine, artificial intelligence and African health sovereignty.

The Africa CDC is an independent continental health agency under the African Union. It was created to support public health initiatives in member states and strengthen the capacities of their institutions to detect, prevent, combat and respond effectively and rapidly to health threats, according to its official site.

The center was founded in early 2016 by the 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, and was officially inaugurated in January 2017.
