An hearing that ended at 2 a.m.

In an exclusive statement to “Tunisie Numérique”, Abdessalem Hamrouni indicated that the Defense, Security and Armed Forces committees of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, and the Internal Rules, Immunity and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Council of Regions and Districts, had heard the Interior Minister Khaled Nouri on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The joint meeting, devoted to the ministry’s budget project for 2027, began at 9 a.m. and extended to 2 a.m. the following morning.

3,900 positions planned in the security forces

According to Abdessalem Hamrouni, the minister announced the scheduling of 3,900 recruitment and training posts in the various security bodies in 2027, i.e., 1,000 more than in 2026. Their distribution foresees 1,500 officers for the National Security, 1,600 for the National Guard and 800 for Civil Protection.

The minister also mentioned the regularization of the status of temporary staff in municipalities, as well as the delegated credits for the Interior Ministry.

A text on municipal councils nearing adoption

The regulatory order setting out the executive and financial mechanisms of elected municipal councils would be in its final stages before publication, Hamrouni indicated. This text sits within the application of Decree No. 4 of 2026, dated September 30, 2026.

Irregular migration and the narcotics bill

The discussions also focused on irregular migration. According to the Defense Committee chair, Khaled Nouri noted an improvement in handling the dossier, both in terms of protecting eastern and western borders and in the care of migrants present in Tunisia. He also spoke of their increasing interest in voluntary return.

Finally, the deputies discussed the bill on combating narcotics and called for speeding up its examination. The text was amended within the ministry before being sent back to Parliament.
