On Tuesday, the kickoff was given to the Kebili governorate’s natural gas supply project, in its component concerning the laying and welding of the gas transport pipelines. The route extends from the Saïdane area, at the northern border of the governorate with Gabès, to the town of Douz, over a distance of approximately 95 kilometers, at an estimated cost of nearly 55 million dinars, financed by the Islamic Development Bank.
The project leader, Nejha Khemiri, stated in a declaration to the TAP agency that the qualification operations for the welders responsible for the pipelines acquired for this project have already begun. These are pipes with diameters of 12 inches and 8 inches, intended to convey natural gas to the Kebili-town and Jemna areas, in the Kebili South delegation, as well as to El Golâa, in the Douz North delegation, in addition to Douz-Kebili. The gas will be conveyed from the Gabès governorate to Kebili through a main pipeline, from which other pipelines will subsequently be deployed to connect the rest of the municipalities.
She added that the realization of the project will continue over a period of 17 months and that its commissioning is planned for the end of 2027, after the completion of the main pipeline and the installation of the gas receiving station in the Kebili governorate, in the Limaguès region, within the Kebili North delegation.
The project has been monitored by the region’s governor, Moez Abidi, who on Tuesday morning conducted a visit to the Limaguès and Saïdane construction sites, in the Kebili North delegation, in the company of several regional and local officials, as well as managers from the regional directorate of the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) and several supervisors responsible for project execution. This visit allowed him to become acquainted with its technical components, the progress of the works, the overall layout of the projected network, and the various phases of its implementation.
It should be noted that the Kebili governorate’s natural gas connection project is among the region’s strategic development projects. It is expected to connect about 6,500 households to the natural gas network, while promoting the realization of numerous industrial and tourist projects.
