The non-regular transport sector, including taxis and hired cars, is preparing for a general strike scheduled for next Monday, April 27, 2026.

In an exclusive statement to Tunisia Digital, Ali Torkia, president of the Ariana Regional Chamber of Individual Taxis and treasurer of the National Transport Syndicate Chamber, explained that this strike was the direct consequence of the ineffectiveness of the commitments made during a meeting held on January 22, 2026 between the Ministry of Transport and representatives of the sector’s unions.

Indeed, this meeting had allowed, according to him, to define several regulatory points, including the revision of transport tariffs.

« The Ministry of Transport had pledged to implement these changes before the end of March, but to date, these commitments have remained dead letters. This situation led professionals to organize an initial protest movement on April 15 in front of the ministry’s headquarters, in the hope of having their demands heard » he revealed, noting that this action provided an opportunity to submit a set of demands to the President of the Republic.

Following this demonstration, it was decided to organize a general strike on Monday, April 27, 2026, in order to defend the sector’s demands and to demand that the agreements reached with the Ministry of Transport be respected.

Ali Torkia emphasized that the strike remains in effect, and called on the authorities to understand the professionals’ expectations and to honor their commitments. He also added that a meeting of the executive board of the General Federation of Transport will take place after the strike to decide on the next measures to follow.
