Facing the pressure of the controversy over the T-shirt in support of the inhabitants of the Ceuta enclave, Kylian Mbappé spoke to AS to justify his decision, also aimed at migrants: “I want to be clear so that everyone understands. It was the clubs’ decision to wear this jersey. We, the players, had to wear it. I first want to express all my solidarity with Ceuta and with all the victims. Because before being a player, I am a human being. But I also wanted to make a gesture and express my sympathy to all the migrants who lost their lives and to those who still live in difficult conditions.”
“I also wanted to think of all the people who suffer”
Vinícius Jr. and Ibrahima Konaté did the same. The French captain wanted to clarify that this was not an easy position, far from it, because one might think he is against the inhabitants of Ceuta, “but no, absolutely not”: “I have nothing against them, I support them 100%. But I also wanted to think of all the people who suffer, because after all, I am human and I do not want to give priority to suffering.”
He adds: “There are people who suffer and it makes me very sad to see that in the world. I am someone who wishes the best for the world in which we live. I want to transmit a message of positivity and peace, and I hope that this situation will be resolved quickly.”
It was the La Liga officials who had thus decided this symbolic gesture of support for all the clubs on this matchday, on the margins of each game.
