The Ministry of Equipment and Housing announced the maintenance of the partial traffic detour at the southern entrance of Tunis, on Regional Road No. 22, until Tuesday, November 3, 2026. This measure is part of the completion of the demolition works of the old La Cagna bridge.

According to the ministry, the demolition works are 100% completed in the Hammamet direction, while their progress rate reaches about 75% in the direction of Tunis. The completion of the operation is expected for Tuesday, November 3.

Alternative routes to the southern suburb and Hammamet
The Ministry of Equipment and Housing invites motorists coming from central Tunis and heading toward the southern suburb or Hammamet to take the following alternative route:

  • Saint-Gobain Road toward Mégrine.
    The Mégrine Riadh Bridge.
National Road No. 1 toward Ben Arous.
Continue to the Bir El Kassaa interchange.

Three possible routes to reach the center of Tunis

For motorists heading to the center of the capital, the ministry proposes three alternative routes.

  • First route: take the Bir El Kassaa interchange, then National Road No. 1 to the Mégrine Riadh bridge, before joining Saint-Gobain Road toward Tunis.
  • Second route: take National Road No. 1, with two possibilities :

Pass through the ramp leading to Radès Stadium, then through the Nouvelle Médina roundabout and the Choucha Radès roundabout, before joining the Radès–La Goulette bridge, towards the center of Tunis or the northern suburbs.
Take the ramp located on the Banque de l’Habitat side, toward the Choucha Radès bridge.

  • Third route: pass via the La Cagna Bridge, then through the El Ouardia 1 and El Ouardia 2 intersections, toward Bab Alioua Square. Continue toward the Riflone Bridge, Moncef Bey Avenue, then the Arab Maghreb Avenue (Route Z4).

In its communiqué, the Ministry of Equipment and Housing calls on all users entering the southern outskirts of the capital to respect road signs and orientation boards installed near the construction site.

It also recommends drivers to exercise vigilance and reduce their speed to ensure the safety of all road users.
