Farid Sellami, a member of the local council of Sfax-ville, in the governorate of Sfax, stated that the local council has taken steps with the relevant authorities and administrations in order to remove obstacles and to open Taparura’s southern beaches to the public.
This initiative, according to him, aims to enable the citizens of Sfax to access their coastal spaces and enjoy their beaches, just like the inhabitants of other coastal governorates.
Calls to open Taparura beaches to the public
In a statement given to the correspondent of Tunisie Numérique in Sfax, Farid Sellami indicated that the Taparura beaches dossier constitutes, in his assessment, a problem that has persisted for several decades.
He stressed that the residents of Sfax have been deprived, for many years, of their right to enjoy these beaches, stating that opening Taparura’s southern beaches to citizens represents a “right for the residents of Sfax”.
The local council member specified that a working session was devoted by the Sfax city local council to examining this dossier and to seeking ways to accelerate its processing.
A correspondence planned with the Governor of Sfax
Farid Sellami also announced that contact would be established with regional authorities through sending a correspondence to the Governor of Sfax, inviting him to engage with this dossier and to help unlock the situation.
He noted that this approach falls within the framework of monitoring citizens’ demands and opening channels of communication with the relevant regional bodies, with a view to finding concrete solutions.
Discontent over blocked projects
The local official also spoke of discontent among the residents of Sfax due to the blockage of several projects in the region, including the sports city project.
According to him, opening Taparura’s southern beaches to the public would allow the city to reclaim part of its right to its coastal spaces and would provide residents with a natural recreational space long awaited.
