The General Legislation Committee has decided to hold nearly daily meetings next week to continue the vote on the bills relating to tax advisers and notaries. It will also organize a workshop with scholars dedicated to the bill concerning the fight against narcotics.

This decision was taken following a meeting held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, in the presence of the committee’s president, Faouzi Daâs, members of its bureau, and several deputies, in order to define its work program for the upcoming period.

What are the priorities for the upcoming work?

The discussions focused on the progress of the examination of the bills submitted to the committee and on the organization of its work.

Several deputies urged completing the examination of texts that had reached an advanced stage of study and voting. They notably cited the bills relating to tax advisers, to notaries, and to the revision of narcotics legislation.

Other members believed it necessary to prioritize texts with a direct impact on social and security conditions.

Speakers also stressed the need to define a clear legislative vision, aligning the committee’s priorities with the real needs of society and with strategically significant reforms, in order to strengthen the effectiveness of the proposed texts.

Strengthen coordination with the executive

The relationship between the legislative and executive functions was also addressed. According to committee members, enhanced communication could speed up the pace of work and facilitate the completion of the examination of several bills.

They thus called for the establishment of more effective coordination mechanisms to improve the complementarity between the two branches and advance legislative work.

Monitor the implementation of laws and measure their effects

Several deputies also called for monitoring the application of the laws previously examined by the committee. They advocated an evaluation approach of their effects, involving the various stakeholders and the relevant bodies.

At the opening of the session, the committee had mentioned the decree-laws brought to its attention and published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Tunisia on 30 September 2026. Its president then presented the bills before it, in order to set the program for the next period.
