Tennis: Nadal Not Interested in Coaching

Retired for a year and a half, Rafael Nadal is enjoying life and does not see himself becoming a coach, as he explained in a podcast. The role of mentor would suit him better.

The subject of a Netflix documentary recently released by the platform, Rafael Nadal is in full promotion and notably took part in Andy Roddick’s podcast, the former world No. 1.

The opportunity for him to discuss his transition, and a possible coaching career. But the Spaniard, barely 40 years old, retired since the end of 2024, enjoys life, his family, and continues to oversee his Academy located in the Balearic Islands.

So at the moment, coaching a player—male or female—is not on the agenda at all.

“I’m not yet ready to accompany a particular player on a daily basis. I’m fully aware of that. I have a lot to do right now and I cannot devote myself entirely to a single player. That’s the situation,” admits the man with 14 French Open titles.

Last year, he had also stated that becoming captain of Spain’s Davis Cup team did not interest him at the moment, because it “does not fit his current lifestyle.”

Nadal advised Zverev and Swiatek
On the other hand, the mentoring role would suit him better. Within his Mallorca academy, he has had the opportunity to host Alexander Zverev or Iga Swiatek in recent months.

His advice apparently served the German player better (who just won Roland Garros) than the Polish player (who has not won any tournament this year), but he is ready to give more.

“Of course, I am always happy to exchange with players. If one of them wishes to come to the Academy for a few days, I will be happy to welcome them. Iga and Sasha have already come, and I have also discussed with several other players. They asked me for tips and opinions on how I managed certain situations and problems. In fact, I have personally lived through many of the things they are experiencing now. It is a pleasure to be able to help them as best as I can.” There is no doubt they will be many to come to him for advice if needed.
