The Dutch Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that the large fire near a military training ground, which had lasted several days, had finally been brought under control, according to broadcaster NOS.
The fire, which broke out on Wednesday at a military training ground near the village of Harde in the province of Gelderland, was declared under control, while the Ministry of Defense remained active in the area to ensure that it does not rekindle.
Like the fire began during a military exercise involving cannons and explosives, sizable plumes of smoke were scattered by the wind, and an alert had been issued in several localities.
Firefighting teams from across the country as well as firefighting helicopters were deployed to contain the blaze. About 30 fire engines from France and Germany with their crews were also mobilized to support the Dutch firefighters.
Other fires were also reported in other regions of the country, notably on several military sites.
An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the fire.
