A delegation from the Central Bank of Tunisia (CBT), accompanied by representatives from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Tunisia, carried out a study visit to Brazil devoted to the experience of the Brazilian instant payment system “PIX”.
This visit is part of the technical cooperation framework between the Central Bank of Tunisia and the Central Bank of Brazil and aims to draw on Brazil’s experience in the digital transformation of payments.
Two days of exchanges with the Central Bank of Brazil
The Tunisian delegation participated in two days of meetings and discussions with the teams of the Central Bank of Brazil. The exchanges focused on the different aspects of the “PIX” system, notably its governance, its regulatory framework, and its business model.
The experts also examined the main factors that contributed to the development and wide adoption of this instant payment system in Brazil.
These meetings, organized within a framework of expertise exchange, allowed the Tunisian delegation to better understand the Brazilian model and to identify lessons likely to feed reflection and initiatives aimed at modernizing the payment system in Tunisia and strengthening financial inclusion.
Engagements with Brazilian fintech players
The visit also continued with meetings with several major actors of the Brazilian financial and technological ecosystem, notably Nubank, Itaú Unibanco, PicPay and ABFintechs.
These exchanges allowed the Tunisian delegation to discover the various applications of innovations related to the “PIX” system in the development of financial services for individuals and businesses.
The discussions also addressed institutional, regulatory, and commercial aspects that contributed to creating a favorable environment for the development of an innovative, inclusive, and competitive digital payment system.
Sharing Tunisian and Brazilian experiences
The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen the exchange of expertise between the two countries, notably through the presentation of Brazil’s experience in the digitization of payments.
The Tunisian delegation also shared Tunisia’s experience and the progress made in the fields of digital transformation and the strengthening of financial inclusion.
A visit within the IFSE project
This mission is part of the project “Strengthening Financial, Social and Economic Inclusion in Tunisia” (IFSE), implemented by GIZ in Tunisia.
