Tunisia is preparing to host the 7th edition of the regional trade fair and conference of women entrepreneurs of the COMESA Women’s University (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa), which will take place from July 1 to July 3, with broad participation of economic actors from various African countries members of COMESA.
This continental economic event, which takes place every year in one of the 21 member countries, represents a key moment to strengthen Tunisia’s position as a gateway for economic exchanges within the African continent, notably within the framework of COMESA and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
As part of the ongoing preparations, an information day will be organized on Tuesday, April 21 of the current year at the headquarters of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts in Tunis. This day will serve to announce the official program of the exhibition, highlight its main guests and themes, and present the expected outcomes of the event.
During this meeting, an African digital platform will be launched, dedicated to registering requests to participate in the exhibition, as well as the scientific seminars and the B2B business meetings that will be held in person and remotely, in order to strengthen communication and partnership opportunities among participants.
This information day will see the presence of a delegation from COMESA and the COMESA Women Entrepreneurs University, as well as the organization’s vice-president and president of the National Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs, Leila Belkhiria Jaber, in addition to the participation of African ambassadors, diplomatic representatives, experts, and representatives of Tunisian and foreign institutions and African organizations.
The event will be held under the slogan “Digital Transformation: A Path to Benefit from the African Continental Free Trade Area,” highlighting the importance of digital technology as a lever to strengthen African economic integration and support intra-African trade.
The program of the event will include scientific seminars, round tables and practical workshops, as well as bilateral business meetings, thus creating a space for exchange of experiences and exploration of cooperation and investment opportunities among different economic actors.
This edition is expected to attract more than 300 women-led companies, as well as a total participation of over 6,000 attendees, in person and remotely, representing 21 African countries, which testifies to the growing interest in the role of women in the continent’s economic development.
Alongside the exhibition, Tunisia will host the proceedings of COMESA’s institutional meeting on June 28 and 29, with the participation of trade ministers from member countries, an important step to strengthen economic coordination and support the regional integration process.
This event aims to broaden the horizons of economic cooperation, to support digital innovation as a growth engine, to facilitate market access and to develop partnerships at regional and international levels.
This event is organized in Tunis in partnership with the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts, the National Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs, and the COMESA University of Women Entrepreneurs, thus underscoring Tunisia’s commitment to supporting African economic integration and strengthening the role of women in development.
