Tunisia Storage Batteries: Sharp Price Drop Expected Thanks to the 2027 Finance Bill

The draft finance bill for 2027 includes tax measures favorable to the renewable energy sector, notably regarding the importation of electricity storage batteries. According to Sadok Besbes, president of the professional association of renewable energies under CONECT, these provisions respond positively to the demands voiced by professionals in the sector.

Speaking on Friday, October 16, 2026, on the program “Midi Express,” Sadok Besbes praised the proposed measures, stating that they could facilitate the acquisition of storage batteries and help address the recurring power supply interruptions during the coming summer.

A tariff and tax exemption for batteries

According to Sadok Besbes, the finance bill provides for a full exemption from customs duties and value-added tax (VAT) applicable to the importation of electricity storage batteries.

These relief measures respond to the requests of the renewable energy professional group, which advocates for a reduction in the tax and customs burdens weighing on these devices.

The representative believes that these measures could encourage more households and businesses to equip themselves with electrical storage solutions, particularly to mitigate the consequences of power outages.

Batteries whose price could drop from 4,500 to 2,500 dinars

Regarding the impact on prices, Sadok Besbes mentioned a reduction potentially reaching 60% thanks to the envisaged exemptions.

For example, he indicated that the price of a storage battery advertised as 5 kW could fall from 4,500 to 2,500 dinars, representing a saving of 2,000 dinars for the buyer.

However, these two amounts correspond to a 44.4% reduction (TN calculation), and not 60% as mentioned in his remarks.

This pricing evolution remains an estimate advanced by the industry representative and will depend notably on the effective implementation of the proposed tax provisions.

CONECT advocates accelerating the energy transition

Beyond the fiscal measures, Sadok Besbes reaffirmed the renewable energy professional group’s commitment to the energy transition in Tunisia.

He particularly stressed the need to develop electricity production from solar energy and to promote the use of storage technologies.

According to him, these directions could help strengthen the country’s energy autonomy and progress toward greater energy sovereignty.

The announced provisions thus fit within a framework for developing renewable energies and diversifying electricity supply solutions.

However, it should be noted that these measures are included in the 2027 finance bill and remain subject to its final adoption.
