Fenix Sound: Three More Chapters Planned for 2024
The electronic music festival “Fenix Sound” kicked off its inaugural edition, titled “The Sound of Mountain,” from April 19th to April 21st, 2024. The event took place in the village of Matmata, located in southern Tunisia within the Gabès governorate.
A Forward-Thinking Event Celebrating Art, Culture, and Eco-Tourism
This innovative festival served as a platform to present a fresh, modern, and socially conscious image of Tunisian entrepreneurs and event promoters. By blending art, culture, and eco-tourism, the organizers managed to transform the small village of Matmata into a vibrant center of musical innovation and cultural exchange.
The first edition of Fenix Sound drew approximately 350 festival-goers, including around fifty international visitors representing countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Morocco, Ecuador, and others. These attendees were captivated by the Tunisian electronic music scene and motivated not only by the allure of Tunisia’s magic but also by the desire to dance and groove to the beats of both local and international DJs and artists.
The event was elevated by a compelling lineup of renowned Tunisian DJs and performers, who kept the crowd energized. The roster included:
- AITH, MO’EZZ, JOSS, ADWAS, HAMRA b2b MAGADA, KOSH, MEHDI BEN NASR, ROU-H, MEHDI MAGHRAOUI, BEN DEEPER, HAZE-M, BAQOOSH, BENNOUR, KADHEM, MARWEN BEN NASR, and SAIF TOUATI.
Beyond the musical performances, the festival featured exhibitions and workshops that showcased the unique charm of Matmata—the troglodyte village known for its distinctive architecture, natural beauty, and rich tourist attractions. Visitors could explore stands dedicated to regional pottery, traditional clothing, and local cuisine, such as the famous “Mtabga Tunisienne,” a stuffed bread delicacy that is a regional specialty. All of this took place in an environment characterized by remarkable decor and an atmosphere designed to evoke a sense of authenticity and immersion.
An Unforgettable Experience in a Unique Setting
The primary goal of Fenix Sound was to offer attendees an exclusive and memorable experience. The event succeeded in fascinating festival participants and leaving lasting impressions on both Tunisian music lovers and tourists who traveled specifically for this occasion.
Commenting on the festival, Islam Hakiri, the event coordinator, stated: “For our first chapter of Fenix Sound, choosing Matmata and featuring the best local DJ talent, VJ artists, technicians, sound and lighting engineers, photographers, and videographers—all Tunisian—made this audiovisual experience truly unique and impressive. It demonstrated the ability and potential of Tunisian expertise to deliver a quality that rivals international festivals and stages.”
Upcoming Chapters and Future Plans
Regarding future editions, Hakiri revealed plans for additional chapters across Tunisia:
- In July 2024, the festival will move to Bizerte under the theme “The Sound of Wave.”
- In October 2024, the focus shifts to Ain Draham with “The Sound of Forest.”
- The final chapter of the year is scheduled for Duzen in December, themed “The Sound of Sahara.”
He concluded with a visionary statement: “Our objective is to highlight Tunisia’s artistic, cultural, and touristic richness through music, arts, and gastronomy. We aim to create a vibrant economic and tourism-driven dynamic, fostering a growing international community. Additionally, we want to showcase the talents of our local artists alongside international acts across a diversity of musical styles and festive atmospheres—all while strengthening the positive image of Tunisia on the world stage.”
