Which English club will buy Elon Musk to rival Jeff Bezos?

Elon Musk is invited to invest in football and enter the English project through an unexpected door: Everton. How so?

While Everton is exploring the possibility of a majority sale, former player Michael Ball publicly urged the American billionaire to buy the club, as its owners seek new options for its capital.

His appeal references Bezos’s presence in the shareholding of Liverpool, Everton’s great rival.

Everton Open to a Majority Sale

The context lends itself to speculation about the club’s future. The Friedkin Group, owner of Everton since December 2024, announced that it is exploring new investment possibilities, notably the sale of a majority stake. Moelis & Company has been mandated to assist in this process.

This capital opening has revived questions about the identity of a potential future buyer. Michael Ball has chosen to bet on Elon Musk, the businessman at the head of several companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. His intervention is currently a public appeal, and not an announcement of negotiations between Musk and Everton.

Jeff Bezos, at the heart of the rivalry with Liverpool

The former Everton defender is relying on another movement in English football. A consortium in which Jeff Bezos participates has concluded an agreement for a minority stake in Liverpool. The club remains controlled by Fenway Sports Group.

The prospect of seeing the Amazon founder associated with Liverpool provided Michael Ball with an argument to address his billionaire rival. His message plays on the sporting rivalry between the two clubs in the city and on the more publicized rivalry that opposes the two American entrepreneurs.

There is no indication at this stage to affirm that Elon Musk intends to respond to this call. The possibility of an Everton takeover remains therefore hypothetical.
