The World Bank Group has announced the appointment of Alexandre Kremer to the position of the new director of its Tunis office, succeeding Alexandre Arrobbio, who held this role for the past five years, according to a statement published by the institution.
Based in Tunis, Kremer will lead the World Bank Group’s activities with the Tunisian government, the private sector, civil society, and development partners. He will also oversee the design and implementation of the Tunisia Partnership Program.
He will furthermore be responsible for coordinating the World Bank team’s efforts to promote inclusive growth, job creation, and private sector development, as well as to support economic and social recovery and resilience.
According to the statement, Kremer becomes the first World Bank Group representative in Tunisia to jointly represent the three institutions that comprise it: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
This appointment reflects the Group’s direction, within the framework of ongoing reforms, toward implementing integrated solutions covering both public and private sectors.
Prior to his appointment in Tunisia, Kremer, a British national, held the position of World Bank representative in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. He has also served in representative roles in several countries, notably Belarus, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine.
He has also worked on issues related to economic, agricultural, and energy policies as well as territorial development in several countries in the region, including Tunisia, Syria and Lebanon.
