Foreign Minister Discusses Latest Libya Developments with UN Mission Chief

Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, received, on Friday, June 5, 2026, Ms. Hanna Tetteh, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), as part of a visit aimed at discussing the recent developments of the Libyan political process and the means to support the United Nations’ efforts to advance this process. This meeting provided an opportunity for the Minister to reaffirm Tunisia’s unwavering position in favor of the United Nations Mission’s efforts to move forward the political process in Libya. He welcomed, in this regard, the initiatives undertaken by UNSMIL to relaunch the UN roadmap across all its components, while emphasizing the role of the United Nations in achieving the Libyan people’s aspirations for a comprehensive political settlement that guarantees the unity of Libyan territory and the preservation of its national resources. He also highlighted the importance of the “structured dialogue” as a vital pillar of the roadmap’s implementation, while welcoming the holding in Tunis, on June 4, 2026, of the third meeting of the restricted 4+4 dialogue mechanism. The Minister further reiterated Tunisia’s sustained commitment to the tripartite consultative mechanism with neighboring countries, considering it an effective framework for coordination and constructive dialogue among brotherly countries, as well as an illustration of their shared will to support the Libyan political process under the UN auspices, aimed at fostering a global and durable political solution that preserves Libya’s unity and the sovereignty of its people, free from any external interference.

For her part, Ms. Hanna Tetteh expressed her deep appreciation for the ongoing support provided by Tunisia to the efforts of the United Nations Mission in Libya. She praised Tunisia’s balanced and constructive positions as well as the central role it plays in encouraging dialogue and strengthening consensus among the different Libyan parties. She also reaffirmed her willingness to continue coordination and consultations with Tunisia as well as with regional and international partners in order to advance the implementation of the United Nations’ roadmap and to intensify efforts toward achieving a global and durable political settlement that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people and contributes to the consolidation of security and stability at national and regional levels.
