MAE Assurances announced the appointment of Hatem Amira to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the company, effective June 1, 2026.
He succeeds Lassaad Zarrouk, who had led the mutual since 2017. This appointment marks a new step for one of the historical players in Tunisia’s mutual insurance sector.
More than thirty years of experience in insurance
Hatem Amira has more than thirty years of experience in insurance, management, and governance of the sector.
Before taking on institutional roles, he held several responsibilities within major Tunisian market companies, notably COMAR and its subsidiary Hayett, then BIAT Insurance.
This background has allowed him to gain a deep understanding of the insurance professions, the workings of companies, and the expectations of policyholders, in both life and non-life branches.
A career dedicated to serving the entire profession
Hatem Amira later led the Tunisian Unified Automobile Office, a structure involved in matters related to motor insurance and cooperation among the various market actors.
In 2020, he was named Chief Executive Officer of the Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies. In this role, he participated in representing the companies, in dialogue with public authorities, and in works focusing on modernization and development of the sector.
Thus, his career combines operational experience within companies with an institutional knowledge of the entire Tunisian insurance market.
A mission focused on growth and innovation
At the head of MAE Assurances, Hatem Amira will be tasked with continuing the company’s development, strengthening its market position, and supporting its growth and innovation ambitions.
This appointment comes in an environment characterized by evolving policyholder expectations, the digitization of services, and the emergence of new risks for individuals as well as for businesses.
The sector must particularly address issues related to service quality, speed of claims settlement, digital transformation, cybersecurity, climate change, and the evolution of mobility patterns.
These challenges form a general context for the entire insurance market, without necessarily matching priorities specifically announced by MAE Assurances in its press release.
Hatem Amira succeeds Lassaad Zarrouk, who had been managing MAE Assurances since 2017.
During nearly nine years, the latter successfully supported the mutual’s development and strengthened its presence in an increasingly competitive insurance market.
A player in Tunisia’s mutual insurance sector
MAE Assurances, whose full name is Mutuelle Assurance de l’Enseignement, is historically linked to the education sector.
As it has developed, the company has expanded its activities and now offers solutions for individuals, professionals, businesses, and associations.
Its offering includes motor insurance, home, health, life protection, as well as several professional risks.
With the appointment of Hatem Amira, MAE Assurances is betting on a leader with dual experience: understanding the internal workings of large companies and the institutional representation of the entire sector.
