Since the start of the harvest season and cereal collection, and up to today, the Béja Governorate ranks first nationally in terms of quantities collected, with 1.8 million quintals, out of a total of 8.4 million quintals collected nationwide, according to Salwa Ben Hdid Zouari, Chief Executive Officer of the Cereals Office, in a statement to the Tunis Africa Presse Agency (TAP).
On the occasion of a field visit conducted this Monday to the Béja Governorate to monitor the progress of the cereal collection operation, Zouari stressed that the region plays a strategic role in cereal crops. These crops cover an area of about 155 thousand hectares, i.e., more than 15% of all the areas devoted to cereals in Tunisia. This importance explains the establishment of 16 collection facilities in the region, including two central cooperative societies and 12 complexes with a storage capacity of 2.2 million quintals, as well as 45 collection centers and two seed production companies, with a storage capacity of around 400 thousand quintals.
She stated that the latest rains had no impact on either the cereals calibration scale or the quality of the final product, noting that the prices of cereals accepted in Béja ranged between 130 and 142 dinars per quintal.
