The Minister of Communications Technologies stated that disabling comments on the official pages of ministries and public institutions does not fall under a centralized decision, noting that Meta allows the administrators of these pages to activate or deactivate this feature. This clarification appears in his response to a written question from Deputy Chokri Bahri at the Assembly of the People’s Representatives.
The minister explained that turning off comments is part of the features made available by Meta for the administrator of a page, who is empowered to activate it, deactivate it, or keep it in service.
Regarding the existence of a reference framework or unified standards governing the management of official pages of public institutions, notably the mechanisms of interaction with citizens and the management of public debate on digital platforms, the minister indicated that the National Cybersecurity Agency provides a reference guide for optimal management of Facebook pages.
He added that this guide mainly includes recommendations related to protecting pages against cyber threats, but it does not cover interaction mechanisms with citizens or the management of public debate, these issues do not fall within the agency’s remit.
The minister’s response comes following a written question submitted by Deputy Chokri Bahri regarding the government’s communication policy in managing the official pages of public institutions on social networks.
