City of Tunis: Stray Dog Removal Under an Organized, Humane Protocol

Written by: Adel Khelifi on May 8, 2026

The Municipality of Tunis clarified, in a statement addressed to the public, that municipal services do not carry out a stray dog “hunt” randomly, contrary to misinformation circulating on the subject. It asserts that this operation is conducted according to an organized and humane protocol.

The municipality explained that the competent services are responsible for collecting stray dogs and transferring them directly to its sterilization center, where they are housed and receive the necessary veterinary care, in order to guarantee their safety as well as that of the citizens.

It added that after the sterilization and treatment phase, these dogs are then moved to an area under the Belvédère, in order to provide them with an appropriate and safe environment.

The Municipality of Tunis reaffirmed its full commitment to reconciling the protection of public health with animal welfare, emphasizing that its interventions are carried out within a framework that respects health standards and humanitarian considerations.
