Presiding over the Tunisian delegation, Mohamed Ali Neffati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, will lead the Tunisian team at the upcoming United Nations Third Ocean Conference. The conference is scheduled to take place in Nice, France, from June 9 to June 13, 2025. The event is themed “United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals: Conserve and Sustainably Use the Oceans, Seas, and Marine Resources for Sustainable Development.”
Under his leadership, Minister Neffati will deliver Tunisia’s official statement during the conference. He will outline the country’s approach to addressing pressing environmental and sustainable development issues, as well as Tunisia’s expectations from the conference. This event provides a comprehensive platform to rally international support for the implementation of national initiatives focused on ocean health and the sustainable utilization of maritime resources.
The conference will serve as an occasion for Tunisia to showcase its achievements, highlight the challenges facing its marine and aquatic ecosystems at the national level, and foster partnerships aimed at environmental protection. It will also attract potential investments to safeguard Tunisia’s marine environment and promote growth within the blue economy sector.
Key topics discussed at the conference will include major ocean-related issues such as deep-sea mining, the enforcement of international treaties on plastic pollution, and the regulation of overfishing. The proceedings will review both the hurdles and opportunities linked to the preservation of oceans and shared marine resources, emphasizing the importance of global cooperation in tackling these challenges.
