EU to reduce dependence on China by mandating new suppliers for businesses, FT reports

According to the British newspaper Financial Times, the European Union is working on plans to compel European companies to procure essential components from at least three different suppliers, in order to reduce the bloc’s dependence on China.

The new rules are expected to affect several key sectors, notably chemicals and industrial machinery.

Note that Bloomberg News had indicated that these measures would set a ceiling for the components that a European company can obtain from a single supplier, which would not exceed 40% of the total components entering into the manufacture of a final product.

At the same time, the remaining components would have to come from three different sources, and not from a single country.
