The regional authorities of Sousse continue their interventions aimed at improving the environmental situation, strengthening urban cleanliness, and preparing sensitive areas for the rainy season. Several operations have been carried out in the municipality of Ezzouhour, in the Riadh delegation, as well as in Ksar Menara, in the Bouficha delegation.
In this context, the governor of Sousse, Sofiene Tanfouri, carried out on Tuesday a field visit to monitor the operations to eliminate black spots, to assess the pace of cleaning interventions, and to control preparations in anticipation of inclement weather.
Nearly 35 tonnes of waste evacuated in Essaâda
The governor notably inspected the operations carried out in the Essaâda area, belonging to the municipality of Ezzouhour, particularly around the municipal stadium.
The interventions allowed the evacuation of nearly 35 tonnes of construction waste. Large quantities of backfill were also deposited in low-lying areas, while the surroundings of the municipal stadium were cleaned and redeveloped in order to limit waste accumulations and sources of pollution.
These actions are aimed at improving the environmental state of the area and its overall appearance.
Several municipalities mobilized
The operation mobilized the contractor responsible for sweeping as well as the National Agency for Waste Management.
Teams and equipment from the municipalities of M’saken, Akouda, Chott Meriem, Sidi El Heni, Hammam Sousse, Messaadine and Zaouia also participated in the interventions.
This mobilization is part of a participatory approach intended to coordinate the efforts of the different stakeholders, accelerate cleanliness campaigns, and eliminate black spots, while preserving the results achieved and preventing the reappearance of anarchic deposits.
The governor calls for regular interventions
Sofiene Tanfouri stressed the need to continue cleaning operations in a regular and periodic manner, according to the priorities identified on the ground.
He also called to support collective and participatory initiatives and to strengthen coordination between the various concerned structures.
The governor also highlighted the importance of further raising citizens’ awareness of environmental protection, the cleanliness of their living environment, and the preservation of the aesthetic of cities, deeming that cleanliness is a shared responsibility and falls within a culture of responsible environmental citizenship.
Desilting of wadis and canals in Ksar Menara
The visit also covered the Ksar Menara area, in the Bouficha delegation, where the governor inspected desilting and cleaning works of the wadis, waterways, and the canal designed to protect the region against floods.
These interventions are part of preparations for the rainy season and potential climatic disturbances.
The operations include cleaning and desilting of the drainage paths, removal of various obstacles, as well as uprooting and elimination of thorny plants likely to hinder the flow.
Several structures involved in flood prevention
The works are carried out with the participation of the Regional Directorate of Equipment, the Directorate of Urban Water, the Bouficha municipality, as well as a private company.
The governor called for continuing these preventive interventions until the completion of all programmed works, in order to improve the region’s level of preparedness and reduce flood risks in case of heavy rainfall.
These operations are part of a regional approach combining improved cleanliness, environmental preservation, and the prevention of risks related to rain and flooding.
