Egypt and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reached a preliminary agreement for the seventh review of the 48-month Extended Fund Arrangement, unlocking imminent access to about $1.64 billion, according to an IMF statement.

This preliminary agreement, subject to approval by the IMF’s Board of Directors, also validates the second review of the agreement under the Facility for Resilience and Sustainability (FRD).

Once approved, Egypt will receive nearly $1.5 billion under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program and $136 million under the FRD.

“This new disbursement will bring the total cumulative disbursements to $7.2 billion of the $9.3 billion expected under the two support programs, which are due to end in October and December 2026,” the IMF said in a statement.
