Exhibit displays works of two generations of Tunisian painters
Tunis, January 6, 2009- An exhibit at the “Kanvas gallery” at la Soukra in Tunis featuring 40 canvasses by two generations of Tunisian painters, is currently on display until January 31.
The paintings by 11 Tunisian artists from the Tunis School of painting*, as well as by artists of the new wave illustrate the extraordinary journey of Tunisian pictorial art, whether figurative in the case of the former or abstract in the case of the latter.
The works which include oil paintings and painted wood engravings are some of the treasures which can be contemplated at the exhibit.
The exquisite representations of Tunisian daily life by Abdelaziz Gorgi, Brahim Dhahak, Ammar Farhat, Ali Bellagha and Ali Ben Salem, harmoniously blend with those of new wave painters represented by Mahmoud Sehili, Habib Bouabana, and Ahmed El Hajeri, despite the different aesthetic conceptions of both schools.
In both cases, Tunisian authentic art stands out in the myriad of colors and shapes the works reverberate.
Regardless of their differences, the visitor will no doubt appreciate the sensitivity, humor and creativity, as well as the universal dimension of these magnificent works.
