President Ben Ali warns of impending humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza
Tunis, January 7, 2009- President Ben Ali warned on Wednesday of an impending humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
Evoking the tragic conditions prevailing in Gaza following the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people which has caused the death of hundreds of innocent civilians including women and children, the Tunisian President renewed his firm condemnation of Israeli military attacks and voiced his concern at the incapacity of the security council to draft a resolution putting an immediate end to Israeli military operations in Gaza.
He made the statement during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
President Ben Ali expressed the hope of seeing the efforts and diplomatic actions currently underway, lead to an immediate end of military operations.
He also expressed his thanks and consideration to the Tunisian people for their solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people.
Tunisia recently sent an emergency relief plane destined to inhabitants of Gaza to El Arich in Egypt.
A blood donation Day was also organized on Saturday in favor of the victims of Israeli attacks and a postal account was opened to receive donations for the Palestinian people.
