Book: “Kairouan through postcards 1895-1940″

It is through ordinary postcards sent by tourists to their loved ones that one can also “read” the city’s evolution and moods. From a mundane object, the postcard thus becomes a historical document.

Enamoured with the city, the Tunisian writer and historian Ibrahim Chabbouh, offers a “walk in Kairouan” during one of the toughest periods in the history of the city and the country namely, the French protectorate.

Ibrahim Chabbouh has led several renowned institutions like the research center of civilization and Islamic Arts, and Tunisia’s national library, he also holds the status of expert from several Arab museums and from the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). He is the founder and president of the Association for the Protection of Kairouan and its heritage.
