Closure of “ICT 4 All Forum-Tunis+4″, 6 agreements signed

TUNISIAONLINENEWS- Tunisia is a model of how achievements in the ICT sector can contribute to economic growth. This is one of the conclusions reached by participants to 4th edition of the international forum of information technologies and communication “ICT 4 All Forum-Tunis + 4″ in Hammamet whose closing session was closed on Wednesday by the Minister of communication technologies, Mr Hadj Gley.

The Minister noted at a forum of solidarity and commitment to partnership between government officials and Tunisian and foreign, companies who proposed a set of measures for the development of ICT infrastructure, innovation in services, use of ICT to optimize energy consumption and fight against the adverse effects of climate change through ICT.

Participants to the forum also proposed to foster public-private partnerships, develop human resources and give priority to increasing the use of ICT in the education sector.
Promoting distance education and focusing on knowledge transfer, were also among the measures proposed.

After the forum, participants issued a statement in which they pledge to continue efforts so that the forum remains a key international event for the exchange of information and partnership between countries, as well as a strategic lever for innovation, development, conducive to the knowledge economy, to contribute to international efforts to reduce the digital divide between countries.

Participants also particularly stressed the desire to integrate issues related to the ICT sector in various international conferences including the African Union to be held in 2010, which will be an important opportunity for the promotion of the ICT industry in Africa.

As a result, six agreements have been signed including the strengthening of leadership in the ICT sector, supporting creative ideas and setting up a general framework for cooperation in the field of microelectronics and nanotechnology.

Mr. Talal Abu Ghazala, chairman of the Global Alliance for ICT and Development, said in an interview with TAP that Tunisia is committed to ICT development adding that , it won international recognition after hosting World Summit on the Information Society in 2005.

On his part, Mr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) supported Tunisia’s pioneering efforts in the ICT sector  and hailing President Ben Ali’s decision to hold the Forum every year in Tunisia to take stock of progress in bridging the digital divide among nations.
