PUP Secretary-General chairs meeting in Sousse

People’s Unity Party (PUP) Secretary-General and candidate for the 2009 presidential election Mohamed Bouchiha, on Sunday, chaired a meeting in Sousse.

He underlined that PUP’s participation in the various electoral events reflects its attachment to serve the general interest, its conviction of the need to reinforce the pluralist democratic process and its commitment to people’s sovereignty and their right to choose their representatives.

He added that the party’s candidacy for the presidential election is by no means a matter of form but rather stems from the party’s constants based on attachment to the values of citizenship and patriotism as well as on defence of freedoms, the development of political landscape and consecration of pluralism.

He specified that PUP’s electoral programme, which is placed under the motto “Together We Build Tunisia of Progress and Modernity,” has 30 items and nearly a thousand or so suggestions and lends a special interest to the social area, particularly the fight against unemployment, free education, social welfare and Tunisian society’s access to digital culture.

Besides, Mr. Bouchiha said PUP’s electoral platform underscores the party’s policy guidelines, its support to the underprivileged categories and attachment to defend freedoms and the right of all Tunisian men and women to a decent job.

This programme, he added, rejects reactionary thoughts and fanaticism and is keen to consecrate equality between men and women and balance between regions and social categories.

PUP, he underlined, is seeking to consolidate the public sector, ensure tax equity and lay the foundations of a comprehensive development that guarantees the future of young generations and promotes dialogue with youth.

Besides, Mr. Mohamed Bouchiha expressed the party’s faith in the common destiny shared by Arab countries and its unwavering support to the Palestinian just cause.
