Sidi Bou S@id goes digital

TUNISIAONLINENEWS- One of the world’s marvels, the perched blue and white village of Sidi Bou Said, a  stone’s throw away from the city of Carthage, is also fast becoming a digital city.

The village will soon be part of the network of digital cities around the Mediterranean thanks to the setting up of digital tracks, the creation of digital production clubs as well as the integration of an online white board at the Sidi Bou Said’s primary school.

The Tunisian Association of the Internet and Multimedia (ATIM),  launched the project, “Sidi Bou Said Digital City” on Monday , in partnership with the Mediterranean Federation of the Internet and Communication and the Information and Communication Association for Sustainable Development.

The official announcement was made on Monday   during an international workshop held on the theme “The Digital City in the Mediterranean Space”.

The workshop witnessed  the participation of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Communication Technologies, in charge of the internet and free software, Mrs Lamia, Sghaier Chaffai, Mr Gilles Pannequin, the Advisor at the French Presidency of the Republic for the Union for the Mediterranean (UPM) and ATIM’s chairman, Mr Moez Souabni, and engaged in a north-south reflection on issues pertaining to digital solidarity around the Mediterranean.

Sidi Bou Said which owes its name to its Patron Saint, “Sidi Bou Said El Beji”, one of the grandmasters of Sufism, thus finds itself today doubly connected.
